Choose a Job You Love and You Will Never have to work a day in Your Life
(Confucius)
We want you to seriously consider what concept this ancient Chinese philosopher is introducing here. How many times have you heard someone say, “I love what I am doing” versus “I love my job”? We urge you to take note of this in the future. Carefully observe which of these two groups of people are the happiest. Which are the most committed to their careers, their personal lives and their values? Why do we want you to observe this? Because we love seeing others, love what they are doing as much as we do. I haven’t worked a day in more than thirty-five years.
Loving what you do transcends your job and even your employer. It is all about you. Your God given talents, learned skills, personal interests, desire to contribute, your feelings of self worth, a strong desire to manage your own time and provide for your needs and the needs of your family.
We suggest that if you want to assure always enjoy your working years, all of these life choices must be maintained in as near a perfect balance as possible. Interestingly enough, most workers never consider this balance can ever truly be “completely up to them”. Not true, it’s their choice.
Most of us let weeks, months, years and finally our lives slip past us, only focusing on the goals and priorities of others. We allow the goals of others to totally consume our working years.
As this happens, without our even noticing it, we slowly loose the enthusiasm and passion we felt when we first entering the work force. We become much more apt to accept “status-quo” in our work performance. Change then becomes something we dislike and maybe even fear. Often this leads to personal frustration with our job and our employer. We mindlessly blame our employer, the industry and almost anything or anyone else for our lack of a having a satisfying career.
Whether you are eighteen or fifty its time to face the reality of life. You are the only one who can control the outcome of your working years. Dedicated professionals, associates, friends and family members can assist you but your career is absolutely and completely in your hands. It is imperative you take control. There is no time to waste. The best time possible to take charge of your career is right now.
